Best for: Non-technical teams that want automations working today, and anyone who depends on long-tail apps only Zapier connects.
Zapier is the default name in small-business automation for a reason: around 7,000 connected apps — the largest ecosystem by a wide margin — and a linear editor simple enough that non-technical staff genuinely build their own automations. If the app you use is obscure, Zapier is the platform most likely to have a connector for it.

Recent years have pushed Zapier well beyond simple 'Zaps': Tables (lightweight databases), Interfaces (forms and simple apps), Canvas and an expanding set of AI features including AI-drafted Zaps and agent-style workflows. These make it more of a workflow platform than a pipe between apps, though the newer surfaces are less mature than the core product.
The persistent criticism is cost at scale. Task-based pricing that starts reasonably becomes expensive quickly for high-volume workflows — commonly several times Make's cost for equivalent throughput. Our advice: Zapier is the right choice when connector coverage or ease of use is decisive and volumes are modest; when workflows are complex or high-volume, price out Make before committing.
