Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16GB, 12th gen)

The Kindle Paperwhite (12th generation, 16GB) is a 7-inch glare-free e-reader with weeks of battery and IPX8 water resistance. For business readers it is the device for long reports, contracts and books on a commute without the distraction of a tablet. The one thing to know: the maker raised the list price by $40 in late August 2026, so this is a poor moment to buy at full price.

Is the Paperwhite worth buying now?

• 7-inch 300 ppi e-ink display, adjustable warm light, weeks per charge.
• IPX8 waterproofing; Send-to-Kindle handles PDFs and documents.
• The base unit shows lock-screen ads; the ad-free version costs $20 more.
• Kindle Unlimited is an optional $11.99 monthly subscription, not required.

No colour screen (that is the Colorsoft) and no stylus (that is the Scribe). Pricing here reads: See current price on Amazon. The standard Kindle 16GB is the cheaper sibling. It appears in our 10-person office tech kit and the everyday tech category.

Who should skip it

Anyone who needs to annotate documents by hand should go straight to the Kindle Scribe or reMarkable Paper Pro. Price-sensitive buyers may prefer to wait for an October promotion.
