Amazon's compact Alexa speaker — timers, intercom, reminders and music for reception, workshop or kitchen

The Echo Dot (5th Gen) is the compact Alexa speaker most small workplaces end up with in reception, the workshop or the kitchen: timers, reminders, intercom between rooms and background music, controlled by voice. It is a low-cost convenience device, not a business system, and the thing to know is that the always-on microphone deserves a second thought in any client-facing room.
Alexa+, the generative assistant, is included with Prime in its launch markets and otherwise costs $19.99 a month; classic Alexa runs without it. There is no manufacturer list price separate from the retailer here, so the listing says: See current price on Amazon. It appears in our office tech kit for a 10-person office and the everyday tech category.
Offices handling confidential conversations should keep always-listening devices out of meeting rooms. Anyone wanting a screen should look at the Echo Show line instead.
