Best for: People with a high volume of unscheduled, in-person conversations who want capture to be a single button press. Anyone whose meetings are scheduled and on-screen should use software instead.

The Note Pro is a card-thin voice recorder that sticks to a phone and hands its recordings to an app, which transcribes and summarises them using large language models. Around $179 as researched in August 2026, with the standard Plaud Note at about $159, and 300 minutes a month of AI processing included at no extra cost.

Plaud is not a speculative gadget company at this point: it has shipped more than two million devices, is profitable, and was projecting revenue near $500 million for 2026 in press coverage from June. Reviewers through 2026 generally rated the Note Pro the strongest all-round dedicated AI notetaker available.

The honest question is whether you need dedicated hardware at all, and for most people the answer is no. A phone does roughly 80% of this free — recording, transcription and summarisation are built into software you already own. What the hardware buys is always-ready capture: a physical button, better microphones for a room, and no unlocking, app-hunting or battery anxiety mid-conversation. That is a real benefit for people who take a lot of unscheduled meetings, and close to worthless for people who do not. Budget for the paid AI plan too if you record heavily; 300 minutes a month goes quickly at four meetings a week.

Not tested hands-on.
