Best for: Per reviewers: field teams, vans and remote sites with open sky and no fixed line; confirm plan availability in your country first.

Starlink Mini is a laptop-sized satellite internet terminal with the Wi-Fi router built in: point it at open sky, power it from DC or USB-C, and a remote site or van is online. It suits field teams working without a fixed line. The one thing to know: service plans vary by region, so check availability in your country before buying the hardware.

  • Price reads List price $249 for the Mini kit (Starlink, Sep 2026); Roam service plans are billed monthly by Starlink and vary by region.
  • About 11.75 × 10.2 inches and 2.56 lb, IP67, with one Ethernet port; SatelliteInternet.com measured 100–222 Mbps in August 2026.
  • The small antenna is more obstruction-sensitive than the Standard dish: trees and buildings cause dropouts, and Roam plans carry data caps below Unlimited.
  • Starlink warns that hardware from a non-authorised reseller can have its service suspended, so buy from Starlink or a retailer it lists.

Who should skip it

Anyone needing a primary office line: the Mini is a backup or field link, and Starlink is not licensed everywhere.

What reviewers say

The Mini's reviewers agree on the headline, a usable satellite link that fits in a backpack and runs from a power bank, and they agree that sky view decides everything.

  • The Verge scores it 9/10 under the headline "space internet goes ultraportable": 1.16 kg, less than half the power draw of the standard dish, quick to set up at new locations and workable in many orientations. Its own measurements averaged from about 74 Mbps down with the dish sitting misaligned at home to about 155 Mbps aligned on a van roof; the cons were a too-short USB-C cable sold separately, a power bank that must support 100 W USB-C Power Delivery, and Wi-Fi range that is sometimes a concern. (The Verge, Oct 2024)
  • CNET took the Mini on a five-hour backcountry hike and recorded averages of 127 Mbps down, 17 Mbps up and 46 ms latency across 12 speed tests, but found even light tree cover caused persistent interruptions and the dish needs a clear view of the sky. (CNET, Oct 2025)
  • Ookla's Speedtest data for the second half of 2025 shows US Starlink users in every state but Alaska reaching median downloads of 100 Mbps or higher, and median uploads of 20 Mbps or higher in 22 states, with latency declining; this describes the network generally rather than the Mini specifically. (Ookla, May 2026)

Consensus: reviewers agree the Mini delivers broadband-class speeds wherever it has open sky and that obstructions, not the hardware, are the limiting factor; the practical disagreements are minor, mostly about Wi-Fi range and the power-bank requirement.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • 1.16 kg with router built in; runs from a 100 W USB-C power bank (The Verge)
  • Under half the power draw of the standard dish (The Verge)
  • 127 Mbps down, 17 up, 46 ms measured on a hike (CNET)
  • Network medians of 100 Mbps or more across most US states (Ookla)

What could be better

  • Even light tree cover interrupts the connection (CNET)
  • Wi-Fi range from the built-in router is limited (The Verge)
  • Needs a 100 W USB-C PD battery; cable sold separately (The Verge)
  • Service plans and availability vary by country (Starlink; not reviewed here)
