Best for: Hands-free capture and audio in settings where a camera is socially and legally uncontroversial — field work, site visits, personal use. Not a general-purpose meeting device.

The second-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses put a camera, open-ear speakers and Meta AI into frames that look like ordinary Ray-Bans. You can ask about what you are looking at, capture 3K video hands-free, and take calls without an earpiece. Pricing starts around $379 as researched in August 2026, with the wider line running up to the $799 Ray-Ban Display.

Commercially this is the defining consumer AI product of the cycle rather than a curiosity: EssilorLuxottica tripled sales of Meta glasses during 2025, past seven million units, and smart-glasses shipments were up around 110% year on year in the first half of 2025. Whatever one thinks of the category, it has an installed base now.

Two caveats deserve equal weight with the capability. Battery life under sustained AI and camera use is measured in hours, not days, so treat it as a device you charge like a phone rather than wear like glasses. And the privacy question is a practical business constraint, not an abstract one: a camera worn at eye level in a client meeting, a hospital, a school or a secure facility is a problem regardless of your intentions, and several of those settings prohibit it outright. Anyone considering these for work should decide where they will be taken off before buying them.
